Beautiful Books: January 2017

For the first time in forever…

Hello, all! Long time no see… but school is hard.

^ Too true. Why do we go to class again?

So, I’ve been meaning to post for a while, but life. Then, I got to thinking: “what could I give my readers to make up for my absence?” also, “April, if you don’t post before the end of the weekend, no chocolate until Friday!” <- Great motivator, I suggest you try it 😀

As I was walking to the pantry to give myself some food for thought to think about post ideas…

It hit me.

I use “writing” when describing my blog.

But I barely ever talk about my writing.

Like hardly ever.

A blue moon occurs more often than a post about my writing.

Or a blood moon.

I like moons!

In fact, I have a friend named Moon who is probably reading this. ❤

ANYWAYS! I have decided to commence this new era of blogfulness (new word game on fleek) with Beautiful Books, hosted by Cait! Thank you for creating this!

The Questions

What were your writing achievements last year?

Completing NaNoWriMo! Also, writing 30K words. Before, my record was 3K 😛

jhsfp
finishing NaNo like…

What’s on your writerly “to-do list” for 2017?

Hmm… finish the first draft of Behind Locker Doors. Get 25% done with my untitled project. And title it. That’d be good too XD

Tell us about your top-priority writing projects for this year!

Behind Locker Doors: Middle School Exposed. As this is based loosely off of real life events, it holds a special spot in my priority list. I want to develop my characters. I want to be one of those authors who can say they are in love with their characters. So yeah 😛 BTW, Solace, if you read this, thanks for designing a cover!

How do you hope to improve as a writer? Where do you see yourself at the end of 2017?

I’d like to have finished my poem challenge, and to be able to say I have written a novel, no matter how trashy it turns out XD

gosh, i love gifs 😀

Describe your general editing process.

Well, I cannot edit on the computer (relatively small edits, but nothing big) so I print it out, get out the red pen, and basically murder the poor paper. XD Also, snacks are involved. Because food.

snacks-snacks-everywhere

On a scale of 1-10, how do you think this draft turned out?

Well, it didn’t. Cause its not completed o.O

why did i put so many memes in this post

What aspect of your draft needs the most work?

Nothing, it’s all perfect. *flips hair*
Just kidding! My hair is curly and unflippable.
No, in all honesty I’d say the character arcs. But that’s scary and hard and I am not brave enough of a human.

What do you like the most about your draft?

The fact that although its pretty bad, its the best novel I’ve ever written in my life because I just started getting serious about writing.

parks-and-rec-two-thumbs-up
a bajillion thumbs up for writing!

What are your plans for this novel once you finish editing? More edits? Finding beta readers? Querying? Self-publishing? Hiding it in a dark hole forever?

Hmmm… probably option number 6 XD
In all honesty, probably alpha readers. And CELEBRATION! Cause life is a party 🙂
Not really. More like a black hole.

this gif is cool!

What’s your top piece of advice for those just finished writing a first draft?

Advice? Don’t you mean, tying them to a chair and forcing them to tell me their secrets?
Joking.
Mostly.
Well, as I have never finished a draft, I’d have to give some universal advice: “perserve, it’ll pay off in the end”

  1. Oh gosh, that first “daily life” image is so true. 😛 It was really interesting to hear about your writing and your goals! I liked all of the memes, but a couple of them were distracting to me…then again, I never use memes because…I’m not really sure why, so that could just be me, haha. AND SNACKS. YES.

                      he also stole my pancake.

    1. Well, I participated in YWP NaNo. It’s basically a world wide novel writing challenge. In November, you set a word count goal for writing (the advertised one is 50K, but you can raise or lower that). There’s a site you can go on with many helpful tips and tricks. Do you understand now?

  2. I liked the format of the questions, the images gave it an extra edge I think.
I’m working on some p[arts of my story but have had a very dramatic writing slump :(.
I really hope that my emoji works now! It’s split itself into two parts, here’s another just in case, :(.

    1. Thanks for telling me what you thought!
Awww, I hope you get through it! Reward yourself with some chocolate for getting this far, and remember that writers are awesome!
Sadly, it didn’t work, but let me help you:
